Man, it’s been a busy summer!  Sunny days full of amusement parks, zoos and family visits have kept our schedule full.  Now fall is here, Stink is getting into a routine at preschool and our next vacation is coming up soon.  Where are we headed, you ask?

COLORADO!  One of the few states I haven’t visited yet.

When Brandon’s family asked us if we could visit I started doing my research, thinking it would be an expensive trip.  It turns out that hotel rooms in Denver are plentiful and affordable, even during the week of Thanksgiving, and our flights were less than $400 apiece.

So now we’ll be spending a week in the beautiful Colorado Rockies!  So far I’ve booked tickets to ride on the Polar Express train with the Colorado Railroad Museum and we have plans to visit the Garden of the Gods.  I’m still searching for one or two more activities to keep us busy.  I’m fully prepared to fall in love with this state and maybe even make long term plans to stay.  And speaking of long term plans….

2017 and Beyond

At the beginning of 2017 we have yet another vacation planned in Orlando for Stink’s 4th birthday.  But instead of spending it all at Disney we’re going to focus on other parks and attractions in the area.  We’ll be visiting Legoland for the first time and going orange picking with my grandparents.  And of course I have to spend a few days at Universal Studios to get my Harry Potter fix so we’ve got 3-day Parkhopper tickets there.  I can’t wait to taste some delicious butterbeer again!

Good to Know: I used Undercover Tourist for my Legoland and Universal Studios tickets.  Their prices were the best that I found and we’ve had a good experience with them in the past when purchasing our Disney tickets.

I booked our annual international vacation in May for 9 warm and sunny days in Mexico.  Brandon and I had visited Cancun 6 years ago and this time we’re returning to explore Riviera Maya.  This is also going to be our first experience staying at an all-inclusive resort and I am STOKED.  We picked the Barceló Maya Palace Deluxe based on its promising kid’s club and mini water park.  Alas, no lazy river but there are live shows and a spa which will keep me happy and endless salsa and Mexican food which will keep Brandon happy.

Most days we’ll just be beach bums but we plan to visit the nearby ecopark Xcaret one of the days on our trip, two if we don’t get to see everything the first day.  I’m really torn about whether to take Stink to see Chichen Itza.  Brandon and I have been and weren’t that impressed but I think it would be a great opportunity for our daughter to learn about Mayan culture.  I’ve still got some time to decide on that.  Either way, I think this is going to be a perfect vacation for all of us.  Sun, sand and swimming: what’s not to love?

We're long overdue for a relaxing vacation

Beyond May, though, our lives are in limbo.  Brandon is supposed to graduate with his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and from there…who knows!  He’s going to try his hardest to get a job abroad but I have a feeling he will have to start with a US company and work his way up.  I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for an overseas position and we’ve settled on about half a dozen countries we’re willing to move to.  If that doesn’t work out then we also have a few states in mind, mostly on the West Coast, that we can see ourselves settling down in.

What’s certain, though, is that we’ll be leaving Connecticut by mid-summer.  We’ve lived in this house for 6 years, the longest I’ve ever stayed in one house in my life.  Connecticut has been great to us but the taxes are astronomical so it’s time to move on.  I’m really looking forward to a new adventure but waiting for it to come is going to kill me!
